Boland’s Guest List Tuesday 23rd December 2009: Hard to believe it but it’s five years on from the boxing day tsunami, which drowned a quarter of a million people and shattered hotels and homes in 13 countries, a remarkable record has been compiled from amateur footage taken by some of those caught up in its horrors. the resulting documentary will be shown on channel 4 on December 30th. Mark Heather was the manager of a brand new luxury beachfront hotel resort and talks to us about the horror that occurred five years ago.

Next up: The past can come up an haunt us and in Gerry Addams case: the IRA heartlands, such as West Belfast are areas where republicans proudly claim they look after their own community and punish drug pushers and sex abusers – except, it now appears, where those criminals are related to the elite. Gerry Adams MP, who covered up the crime of his brother Liam raping and abusing his 13 year old daughter Aine from the age of four, is touring TV studios trying to save his career and his reputation. Ruth Dudley Edwards is an author and journalist and her most recent book ‘ Aftermath: The Omagh Bombing and The Families Pursuit of Justice. Ruth will ask the question: Should Adams come forward along time ago and revealed his and his brothers past. i.e should he of aloud his father a full IRA military funeral knowing what he knew????

How about something different to do on Christmas Day??? Because of adverse weather conditions for the past week, the whole of England has ground to a virtual halt. Schools have closed early due to snow, you can’t get in or out of the country (or across the country for that matter’ by car, train or plane. but there is one place in London that is not affected by the weather. The Serpentine Swimming Club in Hyde Park remains open even when the water freezes over – then the members just smash a hole in the ice and hurl themselves in!! On Christmas day members will take part in a 100 yard race for the Peter Pan Cup. Maurice’s guest Harry Mount, who is an author and journalist, decided to investigate the craze for wild swimming: Diving into lakes, rivers streams, bogs and canals, whatever the weather and will share his tale with us….

And finally…Are you a Christmas fan.. We know Maurice is but his final guest Ryan Shorthouse, a writer on social affairs and his articles can be found in the guardian and daily mail amongst others, will explain why he certainly is NOT!!!! Boland on Tuesday at 10am

The Boland Guest list Tuesday 22nd December: First up is ex page 3 girl, turned recording star, turned TV personality, turned lesbian!!! Sam Fox married her manager Myra: Last year Fox and her lover took part in Celebrity Wife Swap, exchanging with Freddie Starr and his wife Donna with disastrous results. Sam has just appeared in ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, she will tell Maurice that her stint on this year’s series was life changing. The former glamour model was the third star to be eliminated from the jungle. Right now Sam is working on her next album and has released how own video documentary ‘All Around The World’ which is a revealing travelogue style interview covering

Moving swiftly along. Another series has just come to an end the excellent BBC’s: ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Boland’s next guest, TV star Esther Rantzen says: A las, poor Strictly, it’s lost its glitter. They say every marriage losses a shine after seven years, and in its seventh series that has happened to the once passionate love affair between Strictly Come Dancing and the audience. Yes, the BBC’s ruined Strictly, but it can be saved and Esther will tell us how!!!!

Climate change now raises it’s ugly head once again. The Copenhagen summit on climate change has just ended with disastrous results. Father Sean McDonagh was there. In his more recent writing and lectures Sean declares that global warming is the biggest issue facing agriculture over the next 50 years. For him it is a moral and religious issue because taking no action will mean suffering and death. He calls politicians to stop bowing to vested interests. He urges the churches to join the debates with more commitment. Unless attitudes change the well-being of millions will be undermined and future generations will be condemned to live on an inhospitable planet. (Is the Gilmore Show I hear you ask?)

Finally…. Forget playground insults. Vicious online hate campaigns (cyber-bullying) are the latest form of bullying – and they are driving young girls to their deaths. Maurice’s final guest Chris Cloke, head of Child Protection at the NSPCC and chair of the anti bullying alliance, says ‘bullying used to happen in school and then it stopped at home. but now it follows the child so they are bullied in places where they should feel safe’
Boland on Thursday, 10am…

The Boland Guest List Thursday 17th December: Again another headline story makes it onto the Boland guest, which tells of the son of one of the greatest stunt riders attempts to make a jump that almost killed his dad: In an exclusive Talk Radio Europe interview Robbie, the son of stunt legend Evel Knievel, announced today his plans to attempt the same double-decker bus stunt that nearly ruined his late father’s daredevil career. On may 25th, 1975 Evel Knievel attempted to jump 13 buses at Wembley but crashed breaking his pelvis and ending his career. Robbie said today that he would attempt to clear 16 buses on the same motorcycle model used by his father. the death defying stunt will take place in London on may 22nd next year. What Robbie doesn’t know is that Maurice interviewed his late dad Evil when he was broadcasting one of his shows live from Caesars Palace Hotel Las Vegas, the place where Knievle nearly ended his life when an attempted jump through the famous Caesars fountains went terribly wrong.

We’ve opened our prezzes, had our lunch and watched a few boring reruns on the telly, we’ve almost finished the box of Quality Streets (nabbing all the purple ones!!) when its time to settle down to a good board game (sure to get the family at each others throats!!!) Boland’s next guest knows all about that, John Mariani heads up Drummond Park UK’s leading games company. What he doesn’t know is that Maurice’s son Daniel is the face of Articulate TV advertising campaign which is one of Drummand Parks top selling games…

Keeping on the Christmas theme, well sort of, the darker side of Christmas!!! For a few brief weeks, they are paraded and petted at shopping centres and Christmas displays. but for the rest of the year, hundreds of reindeer in Britain are enduring horrific neglect. Robin Page is the former presenter of the TV show ‘ One Man and his Dog’ and the author of a children’s book on reindeer, ‘ Why the Reindeer has a Velvet Nose’. Will explain to Maurice the cruelty dished out to this lovable animals.

And finally folks…. The Embarrassing Dad dance Routine is a sight most have witnessed at wedding receptions and discos up and down the country. But, now a study has found that cringe worthy dancing by middle-aged men is largely down to evolution. Dr Peter Lovatt, a psychologist and a dancer, found that men between 35 and their sixties practise embarrassing dance moves to repel younger women. Obviously he hasn’t seen Maurice dancing: Get it… Morris Dancing!!!!

The Boland Show Guest List Wednesday 15th Dec… We all know that Britain’s Health and safety and PC laws have long ago lost the plot, well, the first story on the Boland show takes top prize for the most ridicules court judgment of the decade. So here goes: Millionaire businessman Munir Hussein, who fought off a knife-welding burglar was jailed on Monday for two and a half years, his wife suffering a stroke due to the stress of the attack, whilst his ATTACKER, a career criminal, was let off scot free!!! The Boland Show has secured an exclusive interview with his lawyer Razi Shah who is hoping to have this ridicules conviction overturned on appeal.

We all knew it wouldn’t take long before a Tiger woods story would make the Boland Show…another day another mistress Tiger woods career has certainly attracted a few birds not to mentions the wood he keeps playing with. But the question is, how did he ever find time to play golf. Maurice’s guest Lauren St John says ALL golfers play around in fact she will tell us how they tried toi score with her….(sounds like a Boland Story!!!!)

Next up is Grant Smith a professional photographer will tell us about the time he was taking photographs of Christ Church in London when he was approached by a police officer who demanded to know what he was doing
(I would have told him: “Eating an efing ice cream, what’s it look like I’m doing) within minuets three police cars with lights flashing arrived as well as a riot van. He was questioned and then let go, It was reveled this week how police in Britain can treat you like a terrorist for taking a holiday snap.

And finally Peter Vardy will talk us through The Puzzle of Sex which is the title of his controversial revised edition of his best selling book and the moral implications of Sex Love and Marriage in modern society. Boland, Wednesday at 10am

Monday 14 December 2009

The Boland Show Guest List Tuesday 14th December: The first guest has a lovely story that fits in with the season of goodwill: Seven years ago Katherine Conner was a career girl who spent every penny on clothes and going out. on a trip to Thailand she came across a mistreated baby elephant, bought him and today Katherine and her husband now own and run a sanctuary for sick and mistreated elephants. Ahhhhhh!! The story follows her glamours career in the fashion world when a chance encounter changed her life….
Keeping in the Christmas spirit how about this for an idea: Vanessa Lloyd-Plat, Britain’s best known divorce lawyer is the pioneer of a controversial new Christmas gift idea – a divorce gift voucher !!!!. She is now selling gift vouchers to friends and family of those facing legal battles and her firm has been inundated with requests to purchase this novel gift idea by celebrities, family and even mistresses. Now, what did I do with Tiger Woods wife’s telephone number??????
Here’s where we depart from the Christmas theme of today’s show; Victory For Free Speech screamed the headlines ‘ Devout Christians, Ben and Sharon Vogelenzang (good luck with the pronunciation of this one!!!) were cleared last week of insulting a Muslim Grandmother who was a guest in there hotel for insulting her faith over a breakfast time conversation on religion (you couldn’t make it up!!!). This ludercrise case included one highly paid senior Crown prosecutor, two policemen-including a detective chief inspector no less-in court to testify the accused. Behind them a team of six officers-yes six highly skilled policemen!!!. Not to mention a QC for the defendants and over 20,000 pounds of taxpayers money…British Justice gone mad or what??? This case has made headlines in all the British newspapers and TV news reports. It will be the first time that Ben and Sharon have agreed to a radio interview.

And finally: The subject of Irish abortion law: Three women launched a landmark case in the Courts of Human Rights in Strasbourg last week , the outcome of which could force Ireland to weaken its strict laws against abortion for the first time in 17 year, Controversial TD, Mary O’Rourke returns to the Boland guest list to give a no hold bared opinion on the ridicules divorce laws in Ireland… Boland on Tuesday at 10am

Wednesday 9 December 2009

The Boland Gust List Thursday 10th December: With Christmas fast approaching our minds turn to family, happy children, opening presents and grandpa asleep in YOUR chair and settling in after stuffing our faces with turkey and Christmas pudding, tuning into our favorite TV Show’s whilst remembering the greats of yesteryear like The Morcombe and Wise Show and Terry and Junes Christmas specials…Maurice is delighted that June Whitfield will be joining him to reminisce on Christmases past to include her shows with Tony Hancock, Sid James and of course Terry Scott. “How this have changed.” She said yesterday at a lunch given in her honor she recalled working with Noel Coward; “I used to curtsey every time I saw him. He said television is not watching but appearing on” June added: “Seemingly every member of the public seems to think the same now”!!!

This week Tom Heal and his friend Will Smith will set off in an attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean. If the survive the storms, sharks and gigantic waves, they will become the youngest pair ever to row across any ocean. Maurice will be talking to Simon Chalk race-organiser who believes the pair have what it takes to fulfill there Atlantic dreams

Lisa Hey, who was 15 when she tortured and killed a lonely pensioner, is due for release later this month and will be given taxpayer-funded change of identity. She gave birth to a daughter earlier this year. Maurice’s next guest Toy MP David Davis, who is a member of the Home Affairs Select Committee and is an advocate of tough measures to deal with criminality. Says; The whole situation re Lisa Hey is appalling!!!!

So lets lighten up with Boland’s final guest stand-up comedian Mark Steel. Steel is also a commentator and author and makes regular appearances on TV, on shows such as : Have I Got News For You , Never Mind The Buzzcocks and IQ. According to Mark there still is hope for the planet. (this will be interesting to all the Gilmore listeners) The odds are against us but we still have 3 days left to save the world and stop X Factor from creating another putrid Christmas number one!!! Boland on Thursday at 10 am

Tuesday 8 December 2009

The Boland guest List Wednesday 8th December: The first story wouldn’t have made it into a fairy tale books it would be too far fetched but it’s true:
A report by Conservative MP Adam Holloway a member of the select defensive committee claims that the source of Tony Blair’s dossier on Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction came from an Iraqi taxi driver. Senior intelligence officials have told Adam that the cabbie falsely claimed Saddam Hussein had acquired long-range missiles after listening to Iraqi commanders chatting in his taxi two years before the invasion. Based on that Britton went into war seeing it’s hundredth young solder killed this year alone and you wonder why UK is in the state it’s in!!!! We’ll here more from Adam Holloway when he joins Boland’s guest list..

Up next again is another story that shows up some of the ridicules rules that British citizens have to live under; a British bride and her husband have been forced to leave the UK and live in cramped conditions in Chile because they are not old enough to qualify for a visa. Briton, Amber Aguilar, 18, married her 19 year old husband Diego from Chile after they had been in a relationship for two and a half years, but, five days after their wedding the government changed the law to mean newly married couples have to be 21 rather than 18 before a visa can go to a foreign national. Rupert Jeffery a deputy headmaster is Amber’s father and he talks to us about his daughter’s plight.

When one refers to icons of British comedy Boland’s net guest must be up there with the best, he is Frank Carson and, It’s The Way He Tells Them’ Well, in this case it’s they way he told them to her majesty Queen Elizabeth 11, Frank MBE, was at the Royal Variety Performance on Monday evening staring with such luminaries as Lady GaGa, Miley Cyrus, Lulu, and Brition’s Got Talent winners Diversity (who by all accounts stole the show) He tells us all about it including how he greeted the royal couple inside the theatre while his three young granddaughters (who go to school in Marbella) presented the queen with flowers.

So 16 days to Christmas ahhhhhhhh!!! Harry Wallop is the consumer affairs editor of The Daily Telegraph and has been on a mission to find the ultimate gadgets, gizmos and products that can help take the stress out of Christmas. He has found everything from pop up Christmas trees to flame free candles. Ahhhhhhhh!!! Oand on Wednesday at 10am
